This has got to be the funniest thing i’ve seen in awhile. The grocery store I regularly go to now has a large “vending” machine that sells designer goods. It is called “Chirp” by Redbox. It will gladly accept your credit card for payment. So far I’ve seen Body Shop products, Dooney and Bourke handbags, Edy Hardy watches, Polaroid camera’s, and some other items I cannot recall. One thing I saw cost $200. Every couple of weeks they switch out merchandise.
I guess in a sluggish economy retailers had to figure out a way to get their products out there, since malls are not the best hangout, as they were a decade ago. Online shopping is an option, but many people are deterred by the shipping and handling and the post office’s iffy delivery system, especially on higher ticket items.
So the next time you ask someone “Oh where did you get that handbag?” Don’t be surprised if they say, “The grocery store, next to the bubblegum machine.”
